Along with their IdeaTab S2, Lenovo has just detailed the K91: a smart TV based on Android 4, Ice Cream Sandwich.

As the world’s first smart TV running Android 4, Lenovo aims to “unite three major smart TV functions” with the K91. Video on Demand, Internet applications and traditional TV programs. Lenovo’s custom apps and console quality games will be available from the Lenovo Store, which will be paired with the Android Market. The entire experience will be wrapped in Lenovo’s Smart Sandwich UI.

As for the hardware in the world’s first ICS TV, it was revealed that the display is going to be a 55-inch 240Hz full-HD 3D IPS panel. There’s also SRS TruSurround, a 5MP camera, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 8060.

Lenovo’s decision to manufacture a television set powered by Android 4 instead of Google TV is interesting to say the least. But it does make sense. By using Android, they’re able to fully customize the entire TV watching experience. From the specialized apps, down to the Smart Sandwich UI.

Just like the IdeaTab S2, the K91 will only be available in China at first. Worldwide availability will be detailed at a later date.

CES will be chock full of Google TV sets, is there room for Android TV as well?
